The Beach and Bruises

This is the first of many beach posts as I visit all of the island's beautiful beaches. Today I went to a beach in Waimanalo. The surf was too rough for swimmers, so there were only boogie boarders with flippers in the water. The beach is in a cove sort of, with rocky mountains behind and around it. There are some mini islands off the coast too that are neat.
I have joined a bike riding group that is training for a 235 mile ride to celebrate the Marine Corps' Birthday on Nov 10th (the first 24 miles will be for Megan's bday of course). We go on training rides every Saturday, and yesterday the weather was actually pretty crummy. It rained for a lot of the ride, so we were all filthy and the roads were very slick. With only 10 miles to go, the guy riding in front of me slowed down suddenly, and I crashed!!! I am mostly ok, just a big scrape and bruise on my hip (see picture) and scrapes on my arm and knee. I was actually pretty close to getting hit by a car... no more rainy day rides for me!
Needless to say, my gross bruises did not make me any new friends at the beach!

Check out the new digs!

I think the stars and planets aligned when I started my house hunting search, because I fell in love with the second place I saw, and it was ready for me to move in right away. And you can't beat that view!!
My new home is a 1 bedroom apartment attached to a house in Kaneohe, on the eastern side of Oahu, and it is literally two blocks from Kaneohe Bay. I have the whole first floor of the house, while my landlords live in the two stories upstairs.
I am all moved in, but I am obviously still accumulating furniture. The living room area is nice and big, and connects right into the dining area. There are windows everywhere, whichs lets in a really nice breeze and lots of light. A porch wraps around the front and sides, which is really nice. In Hawaii, porches or decks are called lanais :)
I've got my awesome futon set up for me to sleep on, since Nick has the real bed. We'll move the futon into the living room when he gets here, so I just need to find a small sofa and tables and such.
My precious house hunting leave is almost over now - I go in and start real work tomorrow!
